SIDECAR BARTENDER SCOOPS TOP AWARD AT COCKTAIL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Michal Lis, Bar Manager at the Sidecar Bar, Westbury Hotel, Dublin won the National Cocktail Championship & Bartender Awards at Food & Bev Live, held in Citywest Convention Centre on Wednesday 5th February 2020. This is the second consecutive year that a bartender from the Sidecar bar has won the top award at the National Cocktail Championship & Bartender Awards.

The winner was presented with his award by John Cassidy, Commercial Director, Edward Dillon & Co. Ltd. and Declan Byrne, President, Bartenders Association of Ireland.

The annual competition is organised by the Bartenders Association of Ireland and sponsored by EDWARD DILLON & CO. LTD. with support from San Pellegrino Tonic Mixers, Reàl Infused Syrups and De Kuyper Liqueurs.

His winning cocktail called ‘Summer Classico 2020’ was made with Belvedere Vodka, St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur, Reàl Passionfruit Syrup, San Pellegrino Ginger Beer, Fresh Lemon Juice and Fresh Lemongrass.

Michal competed against 32 other bartenders from around the country and will represent Ireland at the World Cocktail Championship due to be held in St. Petersburgh, Russia this autumn.

The World Cocktail Championship is the biggest cocktail competition in the world with more than 60 countries competing. It’s a truly unique competition in that it is organised by the International Bartenders Association which is made up of National Bartender Associations from all over the globe.

The Bartenders Association of Ireland was founded in 1972 to promote higher standards of service among bartenders and is a member of the International Bartenders Association (IBA).

  • Best Named Cocktail - ‘Whispering Garden’ - Daniel Wieliczko, Prada, Contarf, Dublin.
  • Art Deco (Cocktail Decoration) – Skirmantas Lelys, Eden One, Ballsbridge, Dublin.

Special Award to Oisin Kelly
A special presentation was made to Mr. Oisin Kelly in recognition of his Gold Medal for Ireland at the World Cocktail Championship 2019 held in Chengdu, China, last November.
Oisin won two awards in China, the 2nd award was for ‘Young Bartender of the Year 2019’ – the first bartender from Ireland to receive this prestigious award.

Speaking at the presentation, Mr. Declan Byrne, President, Bartenders Association of Ireland praised Oisin’s success in China and stated that Oisin was an excellent representative for the Bartenders Association of Ireland and all bartenders in Ireland.
