The Bartenders Association of Ireland (BAI) conferred the title of Honorary Life President on Declan Byrne, past President of the Bartenders Association of Ireland and current Secretary of the International Bartenders Association at their recent annual general meeting.
The BAI made a presentation at the National Cocktail Championship 2016 held at Food & Bev Live in Citywest Convention Centre.
Byrne stepped down last month having served three terms as President and is the associations longest serving President since their foundation in 1972.
He is the first past President to receive this distinguished title and was presented with a scroll and pocket watch as a gift from the members of the BAI.
"I am delighted to receive this award, it means a lot to me. I've traveled the world and made many new friends all because I became a member of the Bartenders Association of Ireland. The same opportunities exist for every bartender that commits to the association. I've thoroughly enjoyed being President of the Bartenders Association of Ireland. It can be a tough position at times and it's only with the support of bartenders and our sponsors that we can successfully deliver a great National Cocktail Championship each year. I wish the Bartenders Association of Ireland the best of luck for the future", Declan Byrne said in his speech.
The inscription on the scroll reads:
Bartenders Association of Ireland - Honorary Life President - Awarded to Declan Byrne.
In recognition of outstanding contribution to the Development of the Bartenders Association of Ireland has this day been elected to Honorary Life President.
