Declan Byrne stepped down as President of the Bartenders Association of Ireland at the AGM held on 3rd Janurary 2016.
Having served three terms as BAI President, Byrne told the membership that it was time to step back and let new faces with new ideas and energy flourish throughout the association.
Byrne first became BAI President in 2002 and was re-elected in 2007 and 2011.
He leaves behind a legacy of milestones for the BAI and bartenders in Ireland. During his Presidency, the BAI won two medals at the World Cocktail Championships - a Gold Medal in Prague 2013 and a Silver Medal in Cape Town 2014.
He worked hard to raise the profile of the BAI both Nationally and Internationally. He is the only BAI President to be invited by the United Kingdom Bartenders Guild (UKBG) to judge their National Cocktail Competition in London.
Byrne had informed the BAI membership last year of his intention not to seek re-election and wanted to focus on his new role within the International Bartenders Association as IBA Secretary. He is the first Irish person to be appointed to the Board of the International Bartenders Association (IBA) since their foundation in 1951.
