Darren will represent Ireland from 14th – 20th July at The Mixing Star World Final to be held at Tales of the Cocktails in New Orleans, USA.
His winning cocktail was called an ‘A-Muse-ing Ale’ and was made with 30mls Disaronno Originale Liqueur, 30mls Guinness Syrup (homemade), 20mls El Candido Pedro Ximenez, 20mls Glendalough Mountain Strength Poitin, 65mls Apple juice, 30mls fresh lemon juice and 5mls of blended Angostura & Peychaud’s Bitters.
During his cocktail presentation, Geraghty spoke of his drink being inspired...
“by the artists muse and how her gift led to the ambrosial liquid we all know and love”. He continued - ”The idea using the centuries old practise of adding Disaronno to a lightly hopped ale to enhance the beers flavour came to mind. Creating a beer style cocktail from the DNA of Disaronno Originale”.
The A-Muse-ing Ale cocktail was served up in a small beer tankard and served with chips seasoned with Disaronno style seasoning which were deep fried by the competitor during his eight minute presentation & show.
Speaking at the prize-giving, Rachel Gilmore-Murphy, Brand Manager for Barry & Fitzwilliam Ltd. and judge commented:
“We’re delighted to have Darren Geraghty represent Ireland and Disaronno at the final of The Mixing Star 2015 competition at Tales of the Cocktail with his cocktail A-Muse-ing Ale.”
Also judging the Irish final was Declan Byrne, President of the Bartenders Association of Ireland & Secretary of the International Bartenders Association with Ray Finn, Brand Manager, Barry & Fitzwilliam Ltd.
Declan Byrne stated it was the first time an Irish Bartender will travel to compete in a cocktail competition held during Tales of the Cocktail. He added,
"I have watched Darren Geraghty develop his skills in bartending and mixology for many years especially when he represented Ireland at the World Cocktail Championships in 2006. Over the last two years, he has worked hard and refocused his energy on entertaining the audience and customers. This is where Darren really comes into his own. He's not just a great cocktail bartender but he treats his bar as his stage. He's a great entertainer too!"
